NOTICE OF PERMISSIVE TAX EXEMPTION APPLICATIONS
The District of Fort St. James is now accepting applications for permissive tax exemptions for the 2027 taxation year. Eligible organizations may apply for an exemption from municipal property taxes pursuant to section 224 of the Community Charter.
Applications must be submitted to the District office before the deadline at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. Late applications will be held until the next review cycle, and incomplete applications may not be considered.
Application materials must include:
- a completed permissive tax exemption application form;
- financial statements for the last three years, unless applying for a one-year exemption only, in which case the previous year’s financial statement is required;
- a copy of the organization’s registered charity or non-profit information return for the previous year;
- a copy of the title certificate or lease agreement, as applicable;
- a description of the programs, services, or benefits delivered from the subject property;
- justification of the need for the services provided to the community; and
- a description of any third-party use of the land or improvements, including user group names, fees charged, and terms of use.
Council will consider each application in accordance with District Policy No. 2.9. Approval is discretionary and subject to the requirements of the Community Charter.
