SUMMER Day Camp Leader – 3 Positions, 1 Team Leader, 2 Camp Leaders
CUPE Starting at $17.33 + 4% in lieu of benefits. Open until Filled

Position Overview:
The District of Fort St. James is currently looking for one Team Leader and two Summer Day Camp Leaders for our various outdoor camps for school-aged children (6-12) between July 4th and August 26th. Staff can expect to work 8:30 – 4:30 Monday to Friday. The Team Leader position starts on or around May 9th.

Camp Leader Responsibilities:
You are a team player; committed to community. You are courteous and effective with the public and enjoy working with children. You must be able to prepare, plan, and lead a wide variety of programs and activities including sports, arts, crafts, games, outdoor exploration, and walking trips to parks. You are also able to work with external contractors for specialized programming. You are enthusiastic and capable of motivating and encouraging others. You will be responsible for promoting a positive, healthy and safe environment for program participants. In addition, you must be able to work closely and cooperatively with parents or guardians and Municipal Staff while providing quality camp programs. You will be responsible for maintaining daily attendance and sign in/out documents and other records. Camp Leaders report to the Economic Development Officer

Team Leader Responsibilities:
You are a post-secondary student who will assist in the creation and delivery of summer programs for children. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to plan, promote and present an exciting series of programs for ages 6-12, and assist with planning for the future. Connecting with other community partners, the Team Leader can create a meaningful summer experience for residents of Fort St. James. The Team Leader will provide support to the Camp Leaders and be responsible for the maintenance of program records such as registration and other related documents. The Team Leader reports to the Economic Development Officer.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Be aged 16-30 and have a valid SIN number.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to organize and provide leadership for children and youth activities.
  • Preference will be given to those with prior experience and/or working in a recreation leadership role.
  • Valid First Aid an asset.
  • All candidates are required to undergo a criminal records check.
  • Provide your own means of transportation to and from the workplace.
