Local governments must annually adopt a financial plan in accordance with the Local Government Act and the Community Charter. The planning period for the financial plan must include the current fiscal year and the next four fiscal years (five-year plan).

Facts about the Budget you may not know:

  • The Municipality's budget must be based on a five year plan that is updated and adopted as a bylaw every year. 
  • The budget must set out the Municipality's objectives and policies for the planning period
  • The Municipality must engage in public consultation prior to adopting the budget each year.
