The District of Fort St. James is located on the south shore of Stuart Lake in central British Columbia. Fort St. James is a municipality of 1400 residents and occupies lands that have been home of the Nak'azdli Whut'en people since time immemorial. The community is defined by the welcoming character and fun spirit of the people who live here as well as the beauty of the surrounding waters landscapes, and natural environments.
The District is seeking applications for the position of Planner
The Planner is responsible for managing and facilitating a range of municipal planning functions, including land use planning, development approvals, community planning, and infrastructure planning. The role requires collaboration with Council, staff, developers, and the public to support sustainable development and align with the District’s Official Community Plan and strategic objectives.
The Planner reports directly to the Corporate Officer but is often assigned tasks by the Chief Administrative Officer and works closely with other municipal staff, external consultants, the public, and the Capital Assets and Projects Coordinator.

Work hours will follow the District of Fort St. James open office hours, 7 hours a day, 8:30 – 4:30, Monday to Friday. It may be requested, from time to time, that you work outside of the District Office open hours. The wages will be subject to the District’s collective agreement with CUPE 4951-02. The hourly rate for this position is $39.46 per hour, as of January 1, 2025.
