The District is seeking applications for the position of Public Works Labourer/Arena Attendant
The Public Works Laborer/Arena Attendant will perform duties to ensure efficient operation and maintenance of municipal infrastructure. The position will require the individual to perform various tasks related to the Arena and Public Works department. 
The position is a physically strenuous and demanding position. Lifting, pulling, shoveling, and other physical outdoor duties related to public works. Operating light equipment will be required from the individual, while ensuring that all activities are completed in a safe and efficient way. 
The individual may at times be exposed to dangerous and/or toxic substances, outside weather elements winter and summer, and must take necessary precautions to protect themselves with proper PPE.  The candidate for this position will be able work independently while maintaining a schedule of work and the ability to prioritize tasks.
The Public Works Labourer/Arena Attendant will report directly to the Arena Supervisor and/or the PW Foreman with direction from Director of Operations, or their delegate. 
Public Works Labourer/Arena Attendant Responsibilities: 
•    Public Works and Arena related duties
•    Ensure quality ice resurfacing 
•    Installing, removing, marking, and maintaining the ice surface  
•    Responsible for operation and care of the ice resurfacing equipment  
•    Monitoring the operation of the refrigeration systems 
•    Perform custodial duties, general maintenance and repair tasks and miscellaneous building maintenance as required
•    Perform all other Arena duties as assigned
•    Maintaining grounds, parks, roads, and other District infrastructure as required
•    Responsible for operation of various equipment and vehicles as necessary for duties
•    When required, operate, and maintain light equipment for the purpose of various public works responsibilities including sewer, water, roads, snow clearing, airport maintenance, construction, or any other related and assigned responsibility including but not limited to: 
•    Garbage Truck 
•    Dump Truck/Plow Truck
•    Tool Cat 
•    Perform job duties in a safe and efficient manner according to all relevant policies and legislation. 
•    Perform minor tasks on equipment including lubrication if necessary.
•    Perform safety checks on all District equipment before operation regularly according to policy. 
•    Set up and take down facilities and public areas for special events, scheduled programs, and user groups. 
•    Assemble and remove various attachments used in the performance of various functions as required. 
•    Perform general maintenance, installations, operation, repair, and replacement of municipal works and infrastructure. 
•    Communicate and assist residents and members of the public in a courteous and respectful manner. 
•    Participate in training courses as required to ensure competency and compliance to District Operation.
•    Perform other related duties as assigned. 

The successful candidate must have:
•    Grade 12 graduation or GED equivalent
•    Refrigeration Operator ticket or equivalent
•    Possess a class 5 BC driver’s license with air brake endorsements
•    Currently hold Basic First Aid (formerly OFA Level 1) training
•    Have previous working knowledge of building maintenance, building cleaning and general knowledge of the building trades such as carpentry, plumbing, and painting
•    Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer services, including customer needs, assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
•    Possess the ability to operate and maintain a variety of tools and equipment.
•    Have the ability to work safely and effectively without direct supervision while adhering to work procedures and safety regulations.
•    Be able to handle conflict and workplace related issues effectively while enforcing facility policies.
•    Knowledge of truck and equipment safety and operation
•    Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner

Work hours will follow the Arena open hours 8 hours/day 40 hours/week during the winter and the Public Works Operational hours during the off season.  It may be requested, from time to time, that you work outside of the Arena opening hours and the Public Works Operational open hours. The wages will be subject to the District’s collective agreement with CUPE 4951-02.  The hourly rate for this position is $41.76 per hour.
