The District of Fort St. James is seeking an experienced Economic Development Officer who will be integral member of the District of Fort St. James. The EDO will take a lead role working with the Chief Administrative Officer, Mayor and Council, community groups, first nations, industry, and District staff to identify and promote community and economic development and diversification opportunities in Fort St. James. The EDO will be guided by the Economic Development department’s goals, objectives, and established portfolios.

Located on the south shore of Stuart Lake in central British Columbia, Fort St. James is a municipality of 1400 residents and occupies lands that have been home of the Nak'azdli Whut'en people since time immemorial. The community is defined by the welcoming character and fun spirit of the people who live here as well as the beauty of the surrounding waters landscapes, and natural environments.

Fort St. James is a service centre for the region, offering a variety of retail stores, restaurants, banking, services, accommodations and government offices. A College of New Caledonia campus, accompanied by three elementary schools and a high school provide quality education opportunities and the construction of a new, state-of-the-art Stuart Lake Hospital will soon enhance access to a range of health care services in the community.

The municipality and surrounding region offer an abundance of year-round recreational activities including hunting, fishing, trails for biking, hiking, motor sports, water sports, marina, and snow and ice sports. The community boasts an array of volunteer-driven organizations and services including a ski hill, golf course, theatre and medical clinic. Local organizations are very active and host events and fundraisers throughout the year including dances, dinners, theatre and concerts, workshops, tournaments and parades.

The ideal candidate for this position will have two to five years’ experience in the community/economic development field or related knowledge and experience in a parallel field. A bachelor’s degree will be considered an asset.

The EDO will have the ability to cultivate and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with elected officials, community groups, and general staff. You have excellent oral, written communication and presentations skills as well as knowledge and experience in both grant research and proposal preparation.

Position: Full-time permanent
Salary: $65,000 - $80,000
Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday – Friday 8:30-4:30 pm
Municipal Pension Plan and Benefits package upon completing the 90 days probationary period.
